Canada’s podium uniforms are the latest Olympic viral sensation, with its “interesting” design being teased to no end online.
The uniform – worn by Canadian athletes while stepping up on the podium – is being mocked for looking either like bacon or Lady Gaga’s famous meat suit, with one meme on the matter now racking up almost 3 million views.
The tracksuit was designed by exercise brand lululemon, who are major sponsors of Team Canada.
In a media release about the podium outfits, lululemon states the uniforms will ensure the athletes step up “in style”.
“The tracksuit’s all-over red and white graphic design featuring a modern take on the maple leaf is distinctly Canadian and fashion-forward, as befits the podium in Paris,” the release states.
Breakdancer Philip Kim is quoted in the release and states: “We’re here to win, and look cool doing it.”
The internet, however, is not in agreement.
Due to its red and white appearance, when photographed from far away, the uniform looks a bit … well … fleshy.
“Why is Canada’s uniform looking like Lady GaGa’s meat suit?” one social media wrote on X.
“It looks like blood splatter,” another said.
A meme comparing the uniform to rashers of bacon now has 2.8 million views.
One user called the tracksuit “ghastly”.
“I think the designer must have been on the maple juice,” they wrote.
