More has come to light about Bryan Danielson’s AEW Word Championship victory that closed out AEW All In: London 2024. Danielson won the gold from Swerve Strickland inside Wembley Stadium in a match that also saw Danielson’s career on the line. After the match, the American Dragon celebrated in the ring with his wife Brie, and their children.

Danielson had “often and actively” pushed against the idea of becoming AEW World Champion, Fightful Select reports, but ultimately accepted the honor at the insistence of Tony Khan. The AEW President was said to be adamant on Danislon winning the world title eventually and wanted the win to be at All In: London.

The decision for Danielson to face Strickland was made at least by April, despite speculation among fans that Will Ospreay would be headlining All In instead. A source told Fightful that Ospreay would have chances to headline the show for years to come, while Danielson has made clear his career is coming to an end.

There were jokes of a “reverse Montreal Screwjob” taking place, that would ensure Danielson won the match even if he didn’t want to. Fightful’s report adds that Danielson has been working banged up in recent months.

Bryan Danielson is AEW World Champion but there are still questions about how long he’ll hold the gold. Bryan has said that he expects to have neck surgery later this year which would of course affect his title reign. On the post-show media scrum, Danielson said he hasn’t planned for the future but will be at this week’s AEW Dynamite in Champaign, Illinois.

Should he remain champion, Danielson will face Darby Allin at Grand Slam: Dynamite next month, amid reports of a World title run for the challenger. Danielson will also have to keep an eye out for Christian Cage. The self-professed great-father won the Casino Gauntlet at All In: London, earning himself an AEW World Title match at a time of his choosing.
