A battle of former WWE Superstars will culminate with either Nic Nemeth or Alberto El Patron emerging as the next AAA Mega Champion next month.
The title was recently vacated by El Hijo del Vikingo, who boasted the records for the longest individual reign and for the most title defenses. Vikingo, who also appears for AEW, gave up the gold after suffering a leg injury last month which resulted in that night's match ending abruptly.
In an announcement, AAA confirmed that El Patron, who won a spot in the upcoming title match via winning a three-way, will face Nic Nemeth. Their match will go down at AAA TripleMania XXXII which will take place on April 27. The show will take place from the Mobil Super Stadium and will serve as the first of three TripleMania events this year.
Though they've yet to face off under their current names, Nic Nemeth and Alberto El Patron are no strangers. The pair feuded in 2013 after Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Patron (then Alberto Del Rio.) The World Heavyweight Championship win is still considered one of the best Money in the Bank cash-ins in the 19-year history of the concept.
The pair's feud would also see the rarely-seen 'double turn' during their title match at Payback that same year. The intensity and underhanded tactics of Del Rio would turn him heel while Ziggler's resilience in the face of adversity turned him face in the process.
