Cody Rhodes kicks off SmackDown

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will kick off a huge night on SmackDown ahead of his title match against Kevin Owens on Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec. 14. What will The American Nightmare say when he greets the fans in Minneapolis?

Your announcers are Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

We take a look back at what happened at Survivor Series.

Michael COle mentions the injuries suffered by Bronson Reed, Jimmy Uso, and Tonga Loa.

Backstage:
The Street Profits and B Fab walk in the back while the Motor City Machine Guns walk in another part of the arena. They will meet for the tag titles.

Backstage:
Solo Siko bumps Apollo Crews coming through security and Crews says something to Solo but Jacob Fatu beats him up. They are not only going to deal with Crews as they go after members of security. Solo signals for them to move on.


Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring.

Cody asks the people of Minneapolis what do they want to talk about. Cody says next week is the return of Saturday Night's Main Event featuring pro wrestling's best. It is what set WWE alfame. It would be the honor of a lifetime to compete on that show. He says it is not that simple because of Kevin Owens.

The music for American Made plays and Chad Gable comes out with Julius Creed, Brutus Creed, and Ivy Nile.

Chad says Cody might be asking why the greatest athlete to come out of Minnesota is here tonight? That is because the transfer window is about to open and Nick Aldis talked about bringing the greatest technical wrestler to Smackdown. Chad says this is his home town and these are his people. He says they are a bit simple minded. They are a bit gullible so they will believe anything you say. Chad says he wants to talk some truth to everyone.

Chad makes his way into the ring and he tells Cody when he first came back to WWE, Cody was the beacon of what he wanted to be. He says he can dress like Cody. What isn't easy is being a good and loyal friend, like Kevin Owens. Chad says he knows about bad friends. He mentions that idiot Otis. Chad says when he was at rock bottom, Otis left him high and dry, just like you did to Kevin. You are a bad frirend. You are not who you say you are. You are the definition of superficial. All Cody cares about is what everyone else thinks about Cody. He is willing to leave friends aside.

You teamed with the one guy who made Kevin's life a living hell. Chad says he would never do that. He says whatever Cody is going to get, he deserves it.

Cody repeats what Chad said and he says it is a good point. Cody asks the fans if they will be his friend. Cody says he is disappointed that it is Chad who is saying all of this vitriol. He says he sees a lot of himself in Chad. You have made things that weren't necessarily special into something special. You maximized your minutes. Cody brings up Shorty G. He tells Shorty that he is looking at Stardust. Cody says he knows all about what Chad is going through and what he is seeking. Cody says Chad might think he has nothing to lose, but he has so much to lose. What happens when you fail again? Cody says what he learned from Wrestlemania 39, he could not nowhere else than at himself. What happens when you don't succeed. What happens if you do not succeed? Do you get rid of Brutus. You have one of the top female stars in Ivy and what happens to her. He starts to talk about Julius and Chad interrupts.

Chad says if he didn't have this suit on, he would whoop Cody's ass.

Cody asks Chad what he just said. Cody says you are here to talk to Nick but he tells Chad to lace up his boots ask Nick if he can go one on one with him tonight. Cody says he has Kevin on his mind and that is not good for you.


Michael says that the show leaders are trying to shift people between rosters.

Backstage:
Bianca is talking to Naomi and she shows off the marks from War Games. Naomi tells Bianca she has it. Chelsea Green and Piper Niven show up and they tell Bianca that since they are done with War Games, she can deal with the Jade mystery. She can provide more time since she lost in the tournament. Bianca asks if it was Piper who took care of Jade because Chelsea cannot win on her own. Bianca punches Green and Piper but Piper kicks Bianca in the injured ribs.



Women's US Title Tournament First Round Match
Tiffany Stratton vs Naomi vs Elektra Lopez

Naomi and Tiffany exchange punches while Lopez watches. Lopez with knees to Naomi and she sends her to the floor. Naomi runs into a bicycle kick from Lopez but Tiffany with a forearm to Lopez. Lopez with a forearm and knees. Lopez sends Tiffany to the mat. Lopez with a drop kick for a near fall. Naomi with a shoulder from the apron but Lopez sends Naomi back to the floor. Tiffany with a shoulder tackle and then she does a cartwheel and hits a drop kick for a near fall. Tiffany with a handspring back elbow into the corner. Naomi kicks Tiffany from the apron and she goes up top and hits a cross body on Tiffany. Naomi with a drop kick to Lopez.

Tiffany with an Irish whip to Naomi but she floats over and runs on Tiffany's back. Naomi tries to leap off Tiffany's back but she slips to the apron. Naomi with a kick to Tiffany and she gets a near fall on Lopez. Tiffany with punches to Naomi. Naomi slides under a double clothesline and she hits a double mule kick and a springboard double cutter. Naomi with a pescado onto Lopez. Naomi goes for a suicide dive but Tiffany with a forearm. Tiffany with a running double stomp to Naomi on the apron. Tiffany kicks Lopez and she hits a suplex. Tiffany gets a near fall. Tiffany goes for a slam but Lopez with an ankle pick and she applies a single leg crab. Tiffany goes for the ropes but a break is irrelevant in this match.

Lopez pulls Tiffany into the center of the ring and tries for a cross face but Tiffany blocks it. Lopez with a crucifix on Tiffany. Naomi gets a near fall. Tiffany gets a near fall. Lopez clotheslines Tiffany but Naomi runs through it. Lopez catches Naomi and hits a uranage for a near fall. Lopez with knees to Tiffany in the corner. Lopez kicks Tiffany to the floor. Naomi misses a round kick and Lopez with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. All three throw punches at each other. Naomi with kicks and Rear View to Tiffany followed by an X Factor to Lopez.

Candice LeRae shows up and Naomi punches her off the apron. Lopez stops a split legged moonsault but Naomi escapes and hits one. Tiffany with a slingshot hesitation senton and then she hits a Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the three count.

Winner: Tiffany Stratton (advances to face Michin in SemiFinals)


Backstage:
Corey and Michael are distracted by something backstage.

Backstage:
We go to Byron Saxton and Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are down and Nick Aldis says they need medical attention. Alex and Chris stop Nick and he advises them and Johnny Gargano of what happened. Johnny says they can jump in. Nick says it isn't the time and Johnny asks Alex and Alex says it is okay. Nick tells Johnny not to make him regret it.


Bianca Belair vs Piper Niven (w/ Chelsea Green)

Bianca with a leap frog over Piper and Bianca with shoulders in the corner. Bianca goes for a slam but she cannot get Piper up due to the injury. Bianca with a shoulder in the corner and then she punches Piper from the turnbuckles. Piper grabs the braid and pulls Bianca to the mat. Bianca with a drop kick but Piper bounces off the ropes and hits a splash for a near fall. Piper kicks Bianca in the ribs. Piper sends Bianca into the turnbuckles. Piper with punches to the injured ribs. Piper sends Bianca into the turnbuckles again. Piper goes for a Piper Driver but Bianca gets to her feet and she kicks Piper. Piper blocks an Irish whip but Bianca with a kick. Green grabs Bianca's leg and Bianca kicks her away. Piper with a Bossman Slam for a near fall.

Piper sends Bianca to the floor and while Piper discusses the NFC Central standings with the referee, Green kicks Bianca in the ribs. The referee makes his count but Bianca beats it. Piper with a kick to the ribs and shoulders in the corner. Bianca drops Piper on the top rope. Bianca goes for a suplex and Piper blocks it and Piper hits a suplex of her own for a near fall. Bianca kicks Piper and she Irish whips Bianca. Piper with another hard Irish whip. Piper with a boot to the back and she kicks Bianca more times. Piper goes for an abdominal stretch near the ropes and Chelsea holds Piper's hand to give her extra confidence.

Bianca tries to give Piper a hip toss but she cannot get Piper over and Piper with a hip toss and a few back sentons. Piper gets a near fall. PIper with a waist lock and Piper turns it into a bear hug. Bianca with punches and her braid to get out of the hold. Bianca with punches. Piper with a head butt and both are a little staggered. Bianca counters a Piper Driver into a sleeper. Piper with a snap mare to escape and Piper misses a splash when Bianca moves. Bianca goes to the apron to avoid a splash in the corner. Bianca sends Piper into the turnbuckles. Bianca sends Piper into the turnbuckles. She goes back to the other side of the ring and sends Piper into the turnbukles. Bianca with a cross body and she gets a near fall.

Bianca with a running shoulder into the corner and she goes to the turnbuckles for punches. Piper sets for a power bomb but Bianca with punches. Bianca with a spear and she gets a near fall. Bianca goes for KOD but she cannot get Piper up. Piper with a Saito suplex and Piper sets for a cannonball but Bianca gets to her feet and she hits a spinebuster. BIanca with a handspring moonsault but Piper gets her knees up. Piper misses a cannonball when Bianca moves. Piper catches Bianca and hits a sit out power bomb for a near fall. Piper pulls Bianca into the corner and she goes to the turnbuckles but Bianca with a forearm to the back and she goes for KOD but Green gets on the apron and Bianca brings Green into the ring. Bianca with KOD onto Green and Bianca gets the three count.

Backstage:
ROOM is being set up for Kevin Owens and his sit down interview with Michael Cole.

We take a look at Shinsuke Nakamura. He says there has been a rebirth and a transofrmation. Not out of desire but out of necessity. LA Knight, this is the beginning of your end.

We go to commercial.

Backstage:
Bianca walks in the back and we see Dominik Mysterio talking to Nick Aldis. Naomi checks on Bianca and Naomi congratulates Bianca on her win but Naomi says she is getting tired of Tiffany and Candice. Byron Saxton talks about Jade's injury he tells Bianca that Piper Niven definitely did not do it. Bianca and Naomi says they will deal with whoever did it.

In-Ting:
The new US Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, makes his way to the ring. Before Nakamura can say anything, LA Knight comes out, like a sore loser.

Knight wants to talk to ya. He says the megastar is in the building. He looks at a man who is the single sorriest example of a US Champion. Cheap shot and cheap victory. You are not the real deal because Knight says he is. Knight says Nakamura is holding something that isn't his. Knight wants his rematch and he wants it now.

Knight tells Nakamura that since he has taken advantage of him from behind or spit mist in his face, Knight puts on sunglasses and he says he will stomp out Nakamura.

Andrade's music plays and he comes out to the ring.

Andrade says he is here for Nakamura.

Knight cuts off Andrade and he is here to collect his debt.

Tama Tonga pulls Andrade to the floor. Jacob Fatu attacks LA Knight.

Nakamura stands in the ring and watches Solo enter.

Nakamura sets like he is going to spit some mist but he lets it dribble out of his mouth and he leaves the ring.

Solo goes or a Samoan spike on Andrade but Knight stops Tama and Fatu. Solo with a Samoan spike to Andrade and to Knight.

Solo tells anyone who thinks the Bloodline is finished, or that the Bloodline is weak. Just because he lost two soldiers that they aren't the ones? He tells them to step up and take a shot. The Bloodline will lay your ass out every single time.

Solo says he is tired of people not taking him seriously or think he is a joke or that it is all fun and games. He says he is the tribal chief. He says he is still the head of the table. He says he still has this. To anyone who wants to come to this ring, you will be doing the same thing that everyone will do. You will acknowledge him.


Backstage:
Ciampa asks Johnny if he got them a title match and if it changes things. Ciampa says they should have had this match months ago. Ciampa says we will find out later and he will see him out there.

We go to commercial.

Backstage:
We are back and Kevin Owns has a message where he asks about the feeling you get when you are told you need to be in Minneapolis to be interviewed by Michael Cole. Kevin says he cannot put it into words. Maybe he can. He says it sucks. Why would Kevin want to be in Minneapolis or talk to Cole. Kevin says he is not going in. If you want to interview him, you have to come outside to do it. He tells Cole to find his car and have a chat if you want.


Smackdown Tag Team Championshipship
Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin (c) vs Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano

Ciampa sends Sabin into the turnbuckles and kicks him. Ciampa tells Johnny that is how you do it. Ciampa with a forearm but Sabin with forearms of his own. Ciampa with an Irish whip and Sabin floats over and hits a series of arm drags into an arm bar. Sabin with a knee to the midsection and Shelley tags in. Alex with a reverse atomic drop followed by a drop kick and the Dream Sequence for a near fall. Ciampa with a double thrust to the throat and he tags in Johnny. Johnny with a wrist lock and he works on the shoulder. Ciampa tags himself in and he chops Alex a few times. He tells Johnny to pay attention and he will do it himself. Alex with a forearm and a side head lock followed by a back elbow. Sabin tags in and CIamap goes to the floor. Alex with a baseball slide to send Ciampa to the floor followed by kicks from Alex and Sabin.

Sabin sends Ciampa back in the ring and he runs Ciampa into the turnbuckles. Sabin with punches from the turnbuckles. Alex tags in and he goes to the turnbuckles but Ciampa sends Alex to the floor. Ciampa with a running knee to knock Alex to the floor and he follows. Ciampa sends Alex into the announce table. Ciampa sends Alex into the apron. Ciampa gets a near fall. Ciampa sends Alex into the turnbuckles and kicks him a few times. Ciampa kicks Alex in his corner and Johnny tags in. Johnny with a snap mare and drop kick to the back of the head. Ciampa tags in and he punches Alex in the ribs. Ciampa gets a near fall.

Ciampa with a side head lock. Alex with punches and he tries to get to his corner. Alex with a jaw breaker and Ciampa blocks a tag attempt. Ciampa kicks Johnny off the apron when Alex moves. Ciampa sends Alex into the turnbuckles and Ciampa misses a splash. Ciampa goes for Fairy Tale Ending but Alex counters with a back body drop. Sabin tags in and he hits clotheslines. Sabin with a reverse atomic drop. Ciampa with a sunset flip and Sabin rolls through and kicks Ciampa. He kicks Johnny from the apron. Sabin with a cross body for a near fall. Sabin with an uppercut into the corner and Ale with a clothesline. Sabin with a back breaker and Alex with a knee off the turnbuckles. Alex gets a near fall.

Alex grabs Ciampa on the apron and Ciampa drops Alex on the top rope. Ciampa with a forearm to knock Sabin off the apron. Ciampa with a neck breaker for a near fall. Ciampa sends Alex to the floor and Ciampa tags in Johnny and he tells him what to do. Johnny sends Alex back into the ring and then Ciampa yells at Johnny and pushes him. Johnny pushes back. He tells Ciampa to get out of here. Alex with an inside cradle for a near fall. Shelley sends Johnny into the turnbuckles while Ciampa gets on the apron with a chair.

Johnny with a low blow when Sabin and Shelley go for Skull and Bones. Alex asks Johnny what did he do and Johnny with a super kick. Ciampa accepts the tag and Johnny smiles. They set for the running knee and super kick combination for the three count.

Winners: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa (new champions)


Michael Cole goes to interview Kevin Owens.

Backstage:
Johnny and Tommaso celebrate and they are joined by Candice while Johnny and Ciampa can tell their kids they aren't losers.

Outside arena:
We cut to Cole in the garage and Kevin tells Cole to get in the car but Cole doesn't want to. Kevin says he has it at a toasty 68.

Cole says they had a nice room for the interview. Kevin reminds Cole of how many times he has been kicked out of the building. Kevin calls Cole the biggest Cody Rhodes fanboy.

Cole reminds Kevin of their interviews in NXT and he was Kevin's biggest supporter. Kevin says he was trying to get people to like him.

Kevin asks how many times did he see Roman trying to end his career, and then Cody teams with Roman. Kevin says it is all about Cody and his stupid logo.

Cole mentions Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Cody Rhodes, and Sami Zayn helped Roman.

Kevin says he doesn't care about them. If Jimmy and Jey want to be Roman's servants again, that is fine. Kevin says Cole doesn't know about betrayal. Kevin says Cody was his friend.

Cole tells Kevin to look in the mirror and Kevin looks in the rear view mirror and he says he sees a handsome man.

Cole tells Kevin he is the problem.

Kevin vanquishes Cole from his vehicle and then he closes the window and he drives away.


Next week, Bayley faces Chelsea Green in one semifinal while Michin faces Tiffany Stratton in the other.

Backstage:
Nick Aldis is with Gunther and Carmelo Hayes stops by and he is shocked at seeing Gunther. Hayes says that Nick doesn't have time for him but for Gunther. Hayes says if Nick doesn't understand, Monday Night Melo sounds good. Nick says he has no problem with Hayes going to Raw and being Pearce's problem.


Non Title Match
Cody Rhodes vs Chad Gable

They lock up and Cody backs Chad into the corner and Cody with a clean break. They lock up and Cody with a side head lock and take down. Chad with a head scissors and Cody escapes. Chad with a waist lock and Cody with a standing switch. We get more standing switches from both men but Chad with a single leg take down. Cody with a kick to the midsection and a forearm. Chad with punches. Cody with a chop. Chad floats over on an Irish whip and Cody with a drop down uppercut. Cody with a delayed gourdbuster. Cody goes for Beautiful Disaster but Ivy gets on the apron to stop him. Chad backs Cody into the corner and hits a dragon screw in the corner.

Chad wrings the ankle into the ring post.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Chad chops Cody and connects with forearms. Chad with an ankle lock but Cody rolls through to send Chad into the ropes. Chad with a drop kick to the knee and he gets a near fall. Chad goes up top and hits a diving head butt for a near fall. Cody stops Chad on the turnbuckles with a forearm. Cody sets for a reverse superplex. Cody and Chad exchange punches. Cody blocks a kick and sends Chad face first to the mat. Cody with a running forearm and a power slam. Cody goes for Beautiful Disaster and hits it. Cody punches the mat and gets Chad up but Chad runs Cody into the corner but Cody holds on to the turnbuckles to block Chaos Theory. Cody with a Cody Cutter and Julius pulls Chad to the floor.

The referee sends Brutus, Julius, and Ivy to the back.

Cody with a rollup for a near fall. Chad clips Cody and he takes off the boot and kicks it to the floor. Chad with an ankle lock. Cody rolls through and sends Chad into the turnbuckles. Cody goes to the turnbuckles for a double jump Cody Cutter. Cody sets for CrossRhodes but Chad with an ankle lock. Cody gets to the ropes. Chad with a German suplex to counter CrossRhodes. Chad goes up top and misses a moonsault but lands on his feet. Cody with CrossRhodes for the three count.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

After the match:
Kevin Owens makes his way into the ring and he stands on Cody's exposed ankle and he stomps on it. Cody punches Kevin but Kevin with a double leg take down and punches.

Referees come into the ring to try to separate them. Cody with a splash to Kevin and Cody htis a suicide dive onto Kevin. They exchange more punches while officials try to hold them apart.
